Peterborough and the Kawarthas Association of REALTORS® (PKAR) was saddened to see the recent article regarding homelessness concerns in Victoria Park.
Housing affordability is an issue in cities big and small across Canada … However, in Peterborough, supply struggles to keep pace with rising demand and the problem feels far more acute. What is even more concerning is the impact this is having on young families just starting out; unfortunately, as a result there is an ever-growing need for shelter-based organizations in our community.
PKAR has witnessed the positive impact shelters can have, these organizations do what they can with very limited resources by giving individuals a safe place to rest their head at night and by providing support to help them put homelessness behind them. PKAR has always taken pride in supporting local shelter-based charities, with a large portion of our fundraising efforts in 2019 going to help both the YES Shelter and The Warming Room.
The issue of attainable housing is one that PKAR holds close to our hearts, and our Association is working to ensure attainable housing remains a top of mind issue in our community. Everyone deserves a place to call home.
